Had karmann working at Nissan a few year ago for the micra coupe convertible . Not there finest hour but quite a feat of engineering

i would highly reccomend mk2 golf gti 8v go for the older one with bosch injection they go like fook and handle real well after a little lowering. ive had 3 and scirocco and corrado but the golf was by far better. easy to maintain cheapish insurance and totally cool always check bulkhead on older ones and inside petrol flap but otherwise not to much to look out for
